Speeches, sparkling and spanakopitas: An uncannily good launch

November 22 2011

As much hoped for, it was uncannily successful.

Warm spirited, warm weather and sore heads aplenty, Friday night and Saturday morning at its best.

But whoever came along to the launch of uncanny media will have left with a string of good memories and contacts from a headcount notched at 200 by the InDaily newspaper.

A pinot chardonnay set a sparkling tone for all guests on arrival and it was uphill from then onwards.

It was an eclectic mix gathered from the media, politics, sport and many small businesses, and it has to be said, the occasional person who really didn’t know why they were there.

Not that it mattered, spreading the word and spreading the concept of a new media offering in town was always the plan and it worked. The plan too was to run from six ‘til eight, a glass or two of white and a salmon roulade on the way home from work, or spanakopitas maybe for the inquisitive or brave.

That failed badly as the party cantered through to late in the evening. Noisy and busy throughout with a break for a few minutes of speeches early on, Lord Mayor Stephen Yarwood a very complimentary and engaging guest speaker.

Party over though and the hard work starts now. But a very good beginning.
