In 1969 a disillusioned journalist heads off in search of something better after finding out the hard way the consequences of having an original thought within the tabloid machine.

Months of aimless driving through desolate countryside and forgettable towns eventually leads him to the Belmont caravan park, where he takes stock of his life. And decides to fight back.

Anger Stays is Freelancer Shane McNally’s debut novel. Drawing on his extensive experience as a journalist, McNally takes us back to a time when newspapers still ruled, and a certain media magnate’s star was on the rise. Set against the backdrop of the Vietnam War protests and an emerging Australian social conscience, Anger Stays describes the dilemma of toeing the line or standing up for your beliefs – and the consequences when your boss happens to be one of the world’s most powerful men.

Shane McNally is the son of acclaimed author, Ward McNally, who taught himself to read and write in prison and went on to pen Australian best sellers such as Cry of a Man Running, Smithy, Goodbye Dreamtime and Man From Zero.

Anger Stays captures Australia in the late 60’s and early 70’s – a time of great social change, activism and personal reflection.  Women were testing boundaries; men were struggling with a changing economy and changing social roles. McNally’s Anger Stays introduces us to the characters and issues of the time with wit and insight. Perfect summer reading.

    Hi there,
I am interested in attending Shane Mc Nally’s book launch. I was wondering if I can just turn up on the night? Also will he be doing a reading?
    Thanks for your time

Hi Christine yes you can turn up on the night. Shane will be doing a ‘Q and A’ style talk rather than a reading.
