SA Radio Collective teams up with Splash Adelaide to present a very alien Halloween

October 22 2013

WOW posterIt’s a Sunday night in 1938 and you’re channel surfing the wireless. A special report interrupts normal programming and makes you lean forward in your seat. You listen, awed and terrified. Aliens are invading!

Your heart races as a reporter’s broadcast stops dead, his last words terror-stricken, live at the scene.

You huddle next to the radio desperately trying to find out more. In your panic you’ve forgotten something very important… It’s Halloween!

This year marks the 75th Anniversary of the most infamous piece of radio ever played, Orson Welles’ War of the Worlds. On Halloween the South Australian Radio Collective (SARC), presenters of the sold out In the Dark events, have teamed up with Splash Adelaide to re-broadcast the radio play that terrified millions of Americans.

SARC Co-ordinators Chris Brunner and Carly Nason are encouraging people to get into the spirit of 1938 and dress up for this Splash event in Whitmore Square.

“This is going to be so much fun. We’re taking our guests back to an era where radio was king – and Welles’ War of the Worlds will show them why. It’s a masterpiece,” says Nason.

There’ll be music from the era, and food trucks galore as SARC is joined by American Top Dog, La Chiva, Craftea and Cake and the Red Velvet Cocktail Lounge. More details on Facebook

Bring a rug and sprawl out with us under the stars for the open-air rebroadcast of the original 1938 radio-play, War of the Worlds. Thursday 31 October, Whitmore Square, Adelaide. Food and music from 7pm, limited rugs for hire on the night. Dress up in your best 1930’s outfits!

Tickets $5.00 at the gate or pre-purchase here: http://waroftheworldsadelaide.eventbrite.ie/
